merger
what is the merger?
On 1 March 2001 the NSW Premier, The Hon. Bob Carr, proposed the merger
of three regional electricity distributors
- Advance Energy
- Great Southern Energy
- NorthPower
The matter was referred to the Australian Competition and Consumers Commission
(ACCC) which approved the merger.
The new organisation Country Energy was formed on 1 July 2001, has over 750,000 customers, and covers approximately three quarters of NSW.
who owns Country Energy and what does the merger mean to me?
The corporation is owned by the New South Wales Government. The merger of three smaller energy companies into Country Energy means that regional and rural customers now have a much stronger and more competitive local energy supplier and one which understands the needs of rural communities.
where is the new company's head office located?
Country Energy is committed to ensuring management decisions are made locally, based on local/regional issues.
Hence, eight regional management offices have been established throughout the previous franchise areas.
The company has corporate offices located at Bathurst, Port Macquarie and Queanbeyan and regional offices in Dubbo, Grafton, Albury, Wagga Wagga and Tamworth.
