On the day our web Storm Tracker was launched - 24/10/00 - we had a perfect storm to test it. Starting near Bourke in western NSW, it moved east through our territory, building in intensity as it went.
At midday, lightning hit the 22kV feeder between Bourke and Brewarrina taking out an insulator on a concrete pole and blowing a wooden pole to pieces. The Bourke line crew were soon on the job to make repairs.
Our system tracked the storm for 15 hours, while it traversed more than 500km and dropped 32mm of much needed rain as it passed over Inverell.
