A powerful career choice




The Lineworker position is pivotal to the provision of the conductors supplying electricity to our customers. The duties can vary from field service centre and region.

People who like to engage their mind to work with their hands can be suited to the Lineworker role. They should like being outdoors in various weather conditions as work can involve working in inclement weather conditions such as wind, cold, heat and dust. Applicants for these positions should not be afraid of heights as work often involves ladders, poles or elevated work platforms (cherry pickers) at heights up to 18 metres.

Below are some of the main types of duties that a Lineworker performs:

  • Construct and maintain overhead and underground live low voltage and high voltage powerlines.
  • Stand new poles, run overhead conductors (lines) using cable pulling/winch equipment.
  • Install sub stations (transformers) and associated equipment.
  • Attend to power outages, find and rectify overhead and underground faults.
  • Maintain/replace overhead substations.
  • Upgrade/replace failed or existing conductors.
  • Connection and disconnect premises on the Country Energy electricity network.
