Long term career opportunities




At Country Energy, the safety of our employees and apprentices is paramount. Using a mentoring approach, apprentices are supervised in every aspect of their work to ensure that they are not exposed to any hazardous situations. Safety training is a priority for the organisation, both employees and apprentices are continually updated on safety best practice.

Apprentices participate in a structured training program, designed to encompass every aspect of the trade.

Apprentices in the lineworker trade cover the following basic subjects during the first year:

  • Occupational health and safety
  • Workshop practices
  • Applied electricity
  • Electrical wiring
  • Circuit protection
  • Electrical drawing interpretation
Following successful completion of the first year, apprentices undertake job related subjects such as:
  • Power system components
  • Power distribution
  • Protection and relaying
  • Lighting
Further on the job training includes:
  • Plant safety practices
  • Rigging and dogging
  • Science and materials
  • Pole and line inspection
  • Vegetation control
  • Underground cable installations
  • Metering installations
  • High voltage switching
Apprentices in other trades receive 1st class education and training in line with the requirements of the indentured vocation.

Travel

To gain appropriate knowledge and skills, travel will be required for short periods to various Country Energy locations or external training providers. Initially, if you are successful in gaining an apprenticeship with Country Energy, you will be required to attend a training Induction of three weeks in one of our training centres at Grafton, Goulburn or Parkes. Reimbursement for travel, accommodation and meals will be provided during this time. Regular travel will be necessary during the four years of the apprenticeship, to attend training and courses at the nearest training centre or TAFE.

Additional training

During the course of an apprenticeship, apprentices will be trained and qualified in a number of WorkCover and other industry accredited operations such as elevated work platform operator and traffic controller.
