The Opportunity
Country Energy’s Engineering Cadetship Program is designed to provide financial support and industry experience to students commencing a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree.Our Cadetships are offered to students commencing first year studies in 2010 or are currently undertaking university studies in electrical engineering, and provide career opportunities within regional NSW upon graduation.
Who can apply?
To apply, you must be a permanent Australian resident and it is preferred you are living in rural or regional NSW or within Country Energy’s network area. You must achieve entry requirements to the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree in a Faculty of Electrical Engineering at a University agreed by Country Energy.You will need to take all available "Power Engineering" elective subjects and the thesis topic chosen by the Cadet must be related to the Electricity Supply Industry. Preference is shown for participants who have successfully undertaken HSC Physics and Extension 1 and 2 Maths, or equivalent.
What does a Cadetship include?
An Engineering Cadet is employed by Country Energy and will be required to attend University on a standard full time basis with full time work experience during each summer vacation and during the inter-semester break each year in July. During work experience cadets work a standard 72 hour 9-day fortnight, and are entitled to four weeks annual leave each year.Country Energy pays the Student Contribution upfront and cadets are reimbursed for compulsory textbooks on successful completion of subjects.
Cadets are paid a wage in accordance with Country Energy’s Award (currently this is on a fortnightly basis) and payments for 2010 are made in accordance with the payment schedule below:
1st Year - $24,097 gross per annum.
2nd Year - $29,277 gross per annum.
3rd Year - $33,904 gross per annum.
4th Year - $37,991 gross per annum.
On successful completion of the degree qualification there will be an opportunity to continue employment with Country Energy to pursue an exciting career in power system electrical engineering.
