What does a Meter Reader do?
Meter Readers may walk up to 30kms per day to record information from customer’s meters into an electronic hand held device. They follow established rosters and read meters in residential, rural and commercial areas. Meter Readers are also responsible for assessing the status of relevant Country Energy equipment including meters and their connections and also for liaising and negotiating with customers regarding meter reading matters including access to property.What will my work environment be like?
A Meter Reader works outdoors in all types of weather conditions and may encounter various animals on a regular basis including dogs, livestock, insects and snakes. They are regularly required to get in and out of vehicles and drive distances including driving on dirt roads. The Meter Reader is also required to lift meter boxes and open and close gates to properties.What training will I undertake?
The Meter Reader is required to undertake various training prior to commencement in the role and will also participate in other training as required throughout their employment to further develop their skills necessary for the role. Some of the training required is:- Country Energy Induction.
- Dog Awareness Training.
- First Aid.
- Rail Infrastructure.
- General Induction for Construction Work in NSW card.
What are the requirements for the role?
Essential- Australian Resident or Citizen.
- Current drivers licence with the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
- Proven ability and willingness to work unsupervised or in a team environment as required.
- Proven basic computer skills.
- Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Strong problem solving and decision making abilities.
- Proven ability to interact with a diverse range of people.
- Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Green Card/White Card.
- Previous experience and a desire to work in an outdoors environment.
- Ability to demonstrate a high fitness Level.
- Previous experience working in an environment which encountered animals.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the local area.
- Previous experience in a target, scheduled or KPI environment.

What are the benefits and conditions?
Some of the benefits and conditions applicable to Meter Readers include:- Ordinary hours of work are 36 per week to be worked in an eight hour day, over a nine day fortnight. Employees have a Rostered Day Off (RDO) once a fortnight.
- Hours are generally 7.30am - 4.00pm (including ½ hour lunch).
- 4 weeks annual leave.
- Rate of pay from approx $42,000 per annum (gross).
- Uniform provided including shirts, trousers, shoes, socks, hat, sunscreen, PPE.
