What does a Regional Stores Officer do?

Country Energy’s Logistics Business Unit has ownership and responsibility for managing the warehousing and distribution of materials functions for Country Energy. A three-tier operating model has been established to efficiently and effectively manage the movement of material around the business. The operating model consists of three major warehouse distribution centres located at Grafton, Dubbo and Wagga Wagga and is supported by 26 regional stores facilities and numerous minor satellite stores operating in conjunction with the regional stores.

 

The Regional Stores Officer will be accountable for the efficient and safe handling and housing of Country Energy's network stores and materials, tools & equipment and safety/PPE items in these regional stores facilities (eg power poles, cable, transformers, insulators, general line construction items and a range of tools and safety equipment).


What duties will I perform?

The primary functions of receiving, storing, picking, packing and dispatching of stores and materials apply to the Regional Stores Officer position.

 

Some of the duties you may perform on a daily basis include:

  • Apply standard warehouse operating procedures in handling the movement of stores and material with speed and accuracy.
  • Process incoming stores and materials accurately and promptly.
  • Inspect, receipt and load incoming stores and material to their correct storage locations.
  • Provide adequate protection against loss or damage of stores and materials.
  • Pick, assemble and make ready for dispatch by packing stores and material in pallet cages, on pallets and in storage bins.
  • Operate mobile plant, such as forklift and trucks.
  • Clean and maintain the stores facility to a standard that will ensure a tidy, healthy and safe workplace.
  • Run various operational reports from the computerised stock system.
You will also conduct your work following Country Energy’s Occupational Health & Safety, Environment and Quality policies.

What are the locations and what will my work environment be like?

The Regional Stores Officer works in one of Country Energy’s regional stores based at the following locations:
  • Far North Coast Region – Ballina, Grafton, Lismore, Tweed Heads.
  • Mid North Coast Region – Coffs Harbour, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Taree.
  • Northern Region – Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell.
  • North West Region – Dubbo, Mudgee.
  • Central West Region – Orange, Bathurst.
  • Southern Region – Wagga Wagga, Albury, Griffith, Leeton, Deniliquin.
  • South East Region – Goulburn, Moruya, Bega, Queanbeyan.
  • Far West Region – Broken Hill, Buronga.
You will be responsible for managing materials and processes that will involve working within a designated stores building but will also involve tasks and functions that will require exposure to the outside elements such as inclement weather or hot sunny conditions. Suitable clothing and other protection aids are provided by Country Energy.

What training will I undertake?

The Regional Stores Officer is required to undertake various training prior to commencement in the role and will also participate in other training as required throughout their employment to further develop their skills necessary for the role. Some of the training required is:
  • Country Energy Induction.
  • First Aid.
  • Forklift Training.
  • Chemical Awareness Training.
  • Manual Handling.
  • HIRAC (OHS) Training.
If you don’t already hold the qualification Certificate 3 in Transport & Distribution (Warehouse & Storage) you will be required to undertake this course.

What are the requirements for the role?

Essential
  • Australian Resident or Citizen.
  • Current drivers licence.
  • Practical skills and experience in working in a warehousing/stores environment.
  • Strong computer skills including experience using an inventory management system.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact with a diverse range of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake physical warehousing duties in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Proven ability and willingness to work unsupervised or in a team environment as required.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of electricity utility industry products.
  • Certificate 3 in Transport & Distribution (Warehouse & Storage).
  • Senior First Aid Certificate.
  • Green Card.

What are the benefits and conditions?

Some of the benefits and conditions applicable to a Regional Stores Officer include:
  • Ordinary hours of work are 36 per week to be worked in an eight hour day, over a nine day fortnight. Employees have a Rostered Day Off (RDO) once a fortnight.
  • Hours are generally 7.30am - 4.00pm (including ½ hour lunch).
  • 4 weeks annual leave.
  • Rate of pay from approx $53,000 per annum (gross).
  • Uniform provided including shirts, trousers, jacket, safety boots, socks, hat, rainwear, sunscreen, PPE.
