Creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
With around 4,000 employees located in country and coastal communities across New South Wales, Country Energy is one of Australia's largest regional employers. As an employer of choice Country Energy is offering a diverse and rewarding range of career opportunities for Indigenous people in their local communities.
This commitment is part of an innovative partnership with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) which recognises Country Energy as a Corporate Leader for Indigenous Employment.
The partnership focuses on the employment, education, training and retention of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. Since forming in July 2001, we have created more than 90 apprenticeships for Indigenous members of our community, providing recruits with the skills and training to establish a foundation for long-term employment and career development in their local community.
Country Energy has also committed to an Indigenous Employment & Development Strategy which will provide even more opportunities for Indigenous people into the future.
In support of this Indigenous employment program, we recently established an Indigenous Network for all Indigenous employees and prospective employees.
The aim of this network is to:- Provide a culturally supportive environment.
- Improve career opportunities for all Indigenous employees.
- Encourage Country Energy employees to recognise and respect the value of Indigenous culture.
The Indigenous employment program is helping Country Energy create a workforce that truly represents its customer base in cultural diversity and incorporates apprentice and trainee recruitment initiatives. It is also helping to support regional economies and has allowed local Indigenous people and their families to stay in their local communities.
Indigenous people interested in a rewarding career with Country Energy should register with their local Job Network provider or keep an eye out for employment advertisements in their local newspapers.
