Corporate Responsibility can be defined as the management of a company’s positive impact on society and the environment through its operations, products or services and through its interaction with key stakeholders such as employees, customers, investors, communities and suppliers.

We’re committed to achieving excellence in this area, and recognise our current and future responsibilities.

We're also focused on embedding our corporate values throughout our business. This is reflected in how we treat our employees, customers and suppliers, and how we manage our community relationships.

How have we measured our achievement in this area?

In 2008 we again participated in the Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI) program conducted by the St James Ethics Centre and its partners. The CRI is a proven business tool and assists us to identify non-financial risk as well as develop and improve corporate responsibility in line with our business strategy.

Other benefits it provides include a framework for integrating corporate responsibility, a systematic and transparent approach to reporting, gap analysis for management, and increased trust in the organisation.

In our first year of participation in 2006 we received the ‘Best Newcomer’ award, and our focus on improvement was acknowledged in 2007 with the ‘’Best Progress’ award. In 2008 we further improved our score and received recognition in the survey for outstanding performance in several areas including Indigenous employment, employee health, and integration of corporate responsibility into corporate strategy.

These results provide solid recognition that we’re stepping up to the increased expectations of our employees, customers, stakeholders and communities. It is also evidence that we’re working to ensure corporate responsibility values are driven throughout every aspect of our business.

We remain dedicated to even better performance in the future and making corporate responsibility a key part of the way we do business.

Employee support – Ethi-Call service

Employees who are faced with ethical issues can also use the Ethi-Call service available from the St James Ethics Centre. This provides specialist support while protecting the anonymity of the caller and his/her organisation.
