Demand Side Management (DSM) is a service that allows you to reduce your electricity consumption during periods of peak demand or supply shortfalls – and be paid for doing so.

• Pro-actively limiting long-term increases in electricity prices, by deferring costly and inefficient spending on under-utilised supply side capacity generators and networks.
• Relieving demand on electricity networks at times of extreme peaks.

• Removal of some of the 'peakiness' in energy production, which then allows generators to provide more constant flows and increased efficiency.

• Increased use of 'distributed generation', thereby reducing the distances over which energy is carried, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Why is it necessary?

Often users require more electricity than is available (e.g. on a very hot day). This causes short-term electricity prices to skyrocket. This service allows demand to be reduced, therefore relieving pressure on electricity prices.

How does it work?

• Reducing non-urgent, non-essential usage of electricity during peak periods.
• Shifting usage (forward or back) to a more economic time.
• Transferring some of your electricity demand to an onsite generator.
