- When using a heater, set the thermostat between 18 and 22 degrees. Costs can escalate quickly with every upward adjustment of the thermostat.
- Review the position of your heater’s thermostat. Is it near an open door or draughty area?
- Consider using infrared heating options, as they warm the skin (the same as some bathroom light/heat/fan combinations) and not the surrounding air. Air conditioning large areas can be both expensive and impractical.
- Rearrange your work environment to take advantage of areas of direct sunlight and/or away from draughts.
- Assess the areas you heat. Are you wasting energy warming areas that are not consistently populated, such as toilets, stairwells or storage areas? Can you 'zone' your heating delivery?
- Where possible, keep all external doors closed or install automated entry systems with a motion sensor.
- Install ceiling insulation batts.
- Use window furnishings such as heavy curtains, blinds or shutters, to minimise heating losses through large expanses of glass in offices, meeting rooms and walkways.
