NSW Solar Bonus Scheme
On 1 January 2010, the NSW Government’s NSW Bonus Solar Scheme commenced, providing customers with a ‘gross’ feed-in tariff for all energy produced by small scale distributed solar photovoltaic systems and wind turbines.
The NSW Government’s Solar Bonus Scheme commenced on 1 January 2010.
Under the Scheme, gross metered customers will be paid a feed-in tariff of 60 cents per kilowatt hour for all energy generated by small scale distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems or wind turbines.
Country Energy has approximately 4,700 net metered customers within its electricity network and, from 1 January 2010 to 30 June 2010, will receive 60 cents per kilowatt hour for all excess renewable energy that is fed into the electricity grid after household or small business needs are met.
Gross and net metered customers will continue to be charged their existing rate for energy consumption and Country Energy will provide an additional 0.812 cents per kilowatt hour for avoided transmission use of system (TUOS) charges.
Country Energy will provide eligible existing net metered customers - with an installed capacity of less than 10 kilowatts - with a new gross meter at no additional charge. Installation of the gross meter can be arranged through any appropriately qualified Accredited Service Provider – charges for the installation of the gross meter are the customer’s responsibility.
Country Energy will write to existing net metering customers, those with an approved application and customers who have lodged, but yet to be approved for connection from 24 December 2009 to advise them of the introduction of the Scheme and of transitional arrangements.
The NSW Government has announced it will review the Scheme in 2012, or when the installed capacity of renewable energy generators reaches 50 megawatts.
The NSW Government’s Solar Bonus Scheme is scheduled to conclude in 2017.
