This calculator is an interactive guide to help you evaluate the areas in your home where you could be using energy and water more wisely.
The costs and usage figures quoted for appliances should be taken as a guide only, as factors such as the size of your home and personal preferences can alter these costs considerably. The units measured are also just an average estimate. Most electrical appliances have their rating on the name plate.
Whilst all care is taken to ensure the figures are accurate, the figures are based on an average electricity rate of $0.15 per kWh and a gas rate of $0.014 per Mj. Due to geography, the different number of tariffs and the exclusion of the Service Availability Charge (SAC) results may not be an actual reflection of your bill.
The CO2 emissions figures have been calculated on the Australian GreenhouseOffice Factors and Methods Workbook 2003 rate of 1kWh = 1.012 kg of Greenhouse Gas Emissions for those appliances that use electricity, and 1kj = 0.45 kg of Greenhouse Gas Emissions for those using gas.
Figures for thermostat controlled appliances have also been averaged to take into account appliances which are normally on continuously and switch themselves on and off to maintain preselected temperatures.
While the results from the calculator may only be an estimate they will give you an idea as to the benefit of changing your usage habits.
